“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV
Not too long ago I forgot to pay a bill and I started receiving those borderline harassing phone calls reminding me that I had an outstanding debt. I decided to ignore the calls because I planned to pay the bill soon and didn’t feel the need to speak to a representative. Well one day as I sat watching the company’s number come across my phone for what seemed the thousandth time, the Holy Spirit spoke and said, “Ignoring the call isn’t going to make the debt go away. Just answer the phone.” Needless to say I returned the company’s call and notified them of my plans to pay the debt. Once I stopped ignoring the issue, the calls stopped.
There are times during our walk with Christ that we have a tendency to ignore internal issues that we need to address. We’ll go through life and try to hide behind our jobs, our titles, our religion or maybe relationships…and continue to ignore attitudes and behaviors that flaw our character. Just like ignoring the phone call wasn’t going to erase the debt I owed, ignoring or neglecting to address internal issues won’t make them go away. Ignoring an unpaid debt will only cause the interest to rise and the balance to increase; ignoring our inner man will do the same. It’ll cause every unchecked issue to increase until you’re no longer able to hide it.
This week I challenge you to face the truth about you. I know first hand that this can be challenging, but God can’t elevate us to the next level unless we allow Him to completely heal and restore us where we are. Proverbs 3:12 states, “For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.” The Lord loves us and desires only the best for us…and sometimes that includes addressing the things in us we don’t want to fix.
Have a great week
