DISFIGURED

Close your eyes for a second, and imagine a man; innocent and blameless, yet hated and rejected by many of the people He loved. Beaten over and over by a whip with nails attached to it, pieces of His skin being ripped from His body. His mouth busted and eyes swollen, blood dripping from the top of His head to the bottom of His feet.

The soldiers mocking Him and spitting on Him, whipping Him while He carried His cross to His death. Jesus’ flesh and body became unrecognizable in order for us to be recognized by the Father. Every lash, hit, and scar, He took for us and His precious life-blood poured out so we could be cleaned of every sin– past, present, and future. He wore our sins on Him to look like the world (us). Even though it sounded like He lost the battle when He took His last breath on the cross, He didn’t. At that very moment when He became breathless and the earth shook, Satan knew He was in trouble. He might have disfigured Jesus but He still had the victory!

So my question is this: Who do you look like? When people look at you do you look like yourself or are you disfigured to look like Jesus?

Becoming the child of a King requires that we disfigure our flesh and self image in order to become like Him. When we say yes to God we must represent Him as well. We can’t show His likeness and image to the world if we haven’t died to our flesh and selfish desires! Jesus allowed Himself to look like a beaten world. He took on the likeness of our sins because He knew that He had to do His Father’s will. So my question to you believers and followers of Christ– are you allowing yourself to be beaten to look like Jesus? Are you enduring the pain of the world to do the work God is calling you to do? Does the world see the new you, the new creation or are you still carrying that wordly image?

For since we are permanently grafted into him to experience a death like his, then we are permanently grafted into him to experience a resurrection like his and the new life that it imparts. Romans 6:5 TPT

But many were amazing when they saw him, His face was so “disfigured” he seemed hardly human! And from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.
